About Us
MWE Consulting was established by Mike Ebstein in October 1999 to
address a need for specialist advice in payment card products. Credit cards
had enjoyed spectacular growth in the latter part of the 1990s but there
was an absence of experienced independent card executives in the region
able to assist with strategic and tactical cards advice.
Based on his 11 years as General Manager Marketing at ANZ Global Cards
Division in Australia, Mike Ebstein had obtained extensive experience in
initially assisting with the turn-around of a highly unprofitable cards
business to be followed by a substantial lift in market share and
accompanying increase in profitability.
In his time helping to position ANZ Global Cards as a major contributor
to ANZ's overall performance, Mike Ebstein was instrumental in developing a
number of major co-branded card products, including the Telstra Visa and
Qantas Telstra Visa cards. ANZ also introduced the first purchasing card in
Australia, developed the largest Visa commercial card portfolio outside of
the USA, lauched the very successful Fast Track
merchant data capture terminals and relaunched a revitalised Premium Card
product.
In addition to his responsibilities in Australia, Mike Ebstein was also
in charge of ANZ's card business in New Zealand and assisted the ANZ
International Cards team with the expansion of the cards businesses in
India, the Middle East, Indonesia and the Pacific Islands. Mike was also a
member of Visa's Asia-Pacific Product Advisers Group and represented them
on Visa's International Product Advisers Group.
MWE Consulting has completed a wide variety of credit and debit card assignments,
including product and distribution reviews, card market entry strategies,
portfolio acquisition and divestment strategies, assistance and input with
strategic planning, product development planning, card workshops, business
modelling, market research, reward program reviews, expert witness and
market analysis.
Clients have included Virgin Money, Westpac, ING Direct, BNZ, National
Bank, Cuscal, Visa, eftpos Australia, American Express,
Qantas, Coles and Members Equity
